Polyunsaturated fatty acids
Fatty acids with two or more double bonds between carbon atoms are called polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Particular importance for the human body have such PUFA as linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid, which are structural elements of cell membranes and ensure normal development and adaptation of the human organism to adverse environmental factors. PUFA are precursors of bio-regulators formed from them - eicosanoids.
Physiological requirement for PUFA - for adults 6 - 10% of the caloric content of the daily diet.
Physiological requirement for PUFA - for children 5 - 14% of the caloric content of the daily diet
