General Provisions

Russian environmental law is a unique branch of law at the intersection of ecology and jurisprudence. It regulates relationships between society, the state, and nature, guiding them toward sustainable development and the protection of the environment. In the context of global ecological challenges such as climate change, depletion of natural resources, and loss of biodiversity, the role of environmental law has become more important than ever.

Russian environmental law has a rich history of formation and development. It is based on the Constitution of the Russian Federation, which enshrines the right of every person to a favorable environment (Article 42), as well as obligations to protect it. In addition, environmental law includes Russia's international commitments regulated by documents such as the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, the Convention on Biological Diversity, and many others.

The aim of this textbook is to provide readers with fundamental knowledge in the field of environmental law, familiarize them with key normative legal acts, principles and mechanisms for protecting the environment. It is intended for students of law faculties, specialists in nature conservation activities, as well as for everyone interested in the legal aspects of human interaction with nature.
